Become a Contestant

Interested in becoming a contestant in the annual Cochrane Lions Labour Day Rodeo?
Our rodeo is a world-class, FCA-sanctioned event and one of the toughest Amateur Rodeos in Canada. Featuring familiar riders and stock from the legendary Calgary Stampede, all set against the backdrop of a charming small town.

Sanctioned Riders

To participate in the world-class Cochrane Lions Rodeo event sanctioned by the FCA (Foothills Cowboy Association), potential contestants must register online before August 14th through the FCA website.

They must also adhere to specific rules and procedures. Here’s a breakdown of how aspiring participants can get involved:

  1. Membership: Contestants must be members of the FCA to compete in sanctioned events.
  2. Registration: Once a contestant is an FCA member, they need to register for the Cochrane Lions Rodeo event. Registration typically opens within a specified timeframe before the event date.
  3. Entry Requirements: Contestants must meet certain eligibility criteria to compete. These criteria may include age restrictions, skill levels, and health requirements.
  4. Event Categories: The Cochrane Lions Rodeo features various categories or events, such as bull riding, barrel racing, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, and team roping. Contestants can choose which events they want to participate in based on their skills and preferences.
  5. Rules and Regulations: Contestants must familiarize themselves with the FCA-sanctioned rules for each event they intend to compete in. These rules cover aspects such as equipment specifications, scoring criteria, time limits, disqualification factors, and participant conduct.
  6. Scoring and Awards: Scoring in rodeo events is based on a combination of factors such as technique, style, control, and completion time. Contestants accumulate points based on their performance, and awards are presented to the top performers in each event.
