2024 Cochrane Lions Rodeo Queen

Lacey Blouin

Rodeo Royalty Bio

Lacey Blouin

Lacey Blouin was born and raised in Cochrane Alberta. Lacey has a passion for the western way of life. She was fortunate enough to be born into a family who loves horses and rodeo. Before she could walk, she was riding horses with her parents.

When not studying, or working in the western fashion industry, Lacey can be found working on her family farm north of Cochrane. She is happiest when outside and working hands on. She enjoys participating in team roping, breakaway roping and taking reining lessons. Lacey also enjoys trail riding, attending rodeos, two stepping and hanging out with her border collie Dottie. Her two main riding companions are both registered quarter horse geldings Duke and Tel. Lately she has been having fun working with three new registered quarter horse colts and finds the training process to be challenging at times, but rewarding.

Lacey has a keen interest in the agricultural industry and has been accepted to Olds College where she will study for a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Agribusiness. This will allow her to equip herself with the skills needed to pursue a fulfilling career in agriculture.

Competition

Each Labour day a young woman between the age of 18-24 is chosen to act as an ambassador for the Cochrane Lions Club, its annual September long weekend rodeo and the community of Cochrane.

During the competition, a panel of external judges considers key competencies which include; horsemanship, public speaking, the ability to effectively engage all demographics, present oneself in a professional western manner, and exhibit knowledge of rodeo events, the Lions Club of Cochrane and the Town of Cochrane.

Competitors will be judged in five categories in all scheduled and informal events:

History

The Cochrane Lions Royalty initiated their royalty program and crowned their 2011 Queen and Princess at the Labour Day Rodeo in 2010.

For the next 6 years, we continued to crown a queen and princess. Beginning in 2017 we began to Crown a Queen. The Cochrane Lions Rodeo Royalty Program is a youth initiative of the Cochrane Lions Club. This program allows for young women to expand and enhance their public speaking, horsemanship, and community engagement skills. Many of our past royalty have cultivated valuable skills, opportunities and memories that they still utilize in their personal life. Some even progressed to hold Pro Rodeo and Calgary Stampede Queen titles.
